Orange is the new black, fifty's the new thirty, comedy is the new rock 'n' roll, _______________ is the new ________________. What's in, what's out, and why is it being replaced?
Many things have come and gone in society. But recently, I have noticed rap music is the new rock and roll. Kids these days are listening to rap music from the many, many electronic devices available. Not too long ago children listened to rock and roll on records, cd players, 8-tracks, and etcetera. Rock music used to be the most common music to hear in movie as well; recently there has been a transition into rap music being used in movie. I believe our taste in music has transitioned from rock and roll to rap simply because the younger generations in the present times have a different taste of music than the older generations did. Rap music is also easier to dance to and more interesting to watch others dance to than rock and roll music. I, however, enjoy many different types of music including rap and rock and roll!

Ever since the internet was invented, the future has leaped forward exponentially. In ways we never could have imagined. It helps us communicate and interact with one another, while also organizing our files and aiding everyday life. The internet entertains us as well as helps us. Nearly everyday I read an article on any news site about current events. Because of this, newspaper companies are going out of business. Everything is being moved to online news websites. Out with the paper news and in with the IRL news. To start, getting online and typing what’s trending is far easier than walking to your local newspaper stand or store. It is a lot easier to stay at home and turn on a computer and launch chrome, firefox, or even internet explorer. Another thing that makes using the internet better is that it is 100% free. Whereas newspapers you have to buy. The internet is not far away from completing shutting out newspaper companies. It is irrelevant. Out with the old, in with the new.

ReplyDeleteI think that Apple or Google Maps is the new paper atlas. As I traveled to Nashville with my mom this weekend, we both relied heavily on our phones to get us to our destinations throughout our trip. It made me think of a time before digital maps, GPS’s, and virtual directions. Back when people had to read a map, it must have been more expensive. How many maps did you have to buy? A thick atlas with all the interstates in the country? What if all of the roads were too small and you got them mixed up and the next thing you know, you’re in the completely wrong state? Did you just have to look at the signs on the interstate and trust you were headed in the right direction? What if you were trying to find a particular restaurant? Would you purchase a map of downtown Nashville, for example, and then go from there? Could you ask a pedestrian and just hope that they were knowledgeable, reliable, and accurate? The thought of navigating an unknown terrain without the help of technology makes me shudder with anxiety. Although I can read a map, I would struggle with putting my knowledge in the hands of a paper copy that can’t tell me if I’m going the wrong way.

In: electric cars. Out: gas vehicles. As our world continues to advance in technology, we also consider the impact we are making on our planet. As this new trend of electric cars comes in, more and more people are leaning toward this new idea. Although new and different, it seems to attract support. As our traditional vehicles run on gas and emit fumes into our natural environment, the new electric ones don’t. The eco-friendly idea appeals greatly to our society. People enjoy taking part in a movement that takes care of the planet. On the other hand, electric vehicles are using electricity that is made from the same fossil fuels our gas is. Electric bills of these car owners also increase. So in the end, electric vehicles may not be any more environmentally friendly. Yet, it will take a lot to reverse the new trend that many have become a part of.

In the world today, there is so many things that are constantly changing. From the clothes that are in, the new technology, even the food that we eat. One thing throughout the past year or two that has made great advancements in the world of television and movies and sitcoms is how we watch them all. Cable used to be a must have among Americans, everyone had it. However, nowadays, things like Netflix and Hulu have replaced the amount of Americans that even watch television. It is so much more convenient to have the movies and tv shows right at your fingertips and not have to have commercials in the way. Now, people mostly just use cable to watch sports or things of that sort. I don’t think these changes are going to stop, and most believe that the changes will continue to progress in the direction that it is currently heading.

In today's world Netflix is in and cable T.V. is out. Netflix is an app that consists of many movies and shows available for members to watch. And to make Netflix even better it only cost ten dollars a month. Compared to cable Netflix is cheap. Also when it comes to cable you can’t watch what show you want unless you’ve recorded the show. Say you want to watch a whole a show from the beginning to the end, well you can do that with netflix. Granit not every show or movie can be found on the app. What really makes netflix popular is the fact that you can watch Netflix anywhere. All you need is a device with data or connection to wifi. With cable you can’t just bring a tv with you everywhere you go. In society technology is a big thing and netflix applies to this. It’s a new and accessible way to watch tv.

Ebooks are in and paper copies are out. Today many people have better things to do in their lives than to sit and read a books, however the few people that still enjoy reading typically prefer Ebooks rather than actual paper copy books. This is probably because people have technology with them everywhere. A person could easily pull out their phone from their pocket and start reading their favorite book on it. With a paper copy, it’s not as efficient because a you can’t fit it into your pocket. Carrying a book around would just be another thing that you would have to keep track of. Most people are glued to their phones, so to have a book already downloaded on their phone is handy. I would much rather read from an actual book then read off my phone, no matter how much more efficient Ebooks are, I think there’s just something about actual books that just make them better.

When I look at the current hipster fashion trends, I say one thing to myself: Old seems to be the new hip. I’m sure that if you Google a picture of a hipster, you're sure to find some fashion choices that are reminiscent of 20, or 30 years ago. Whether it be 80’s aviator glasses, a parka from the 90’s, or even a fedora, older fashion trends seem to be coming back in a big way. Perhaps it is the bright colors, the simplicity of the clothes, the nostalgic feels the clothes give them, or just wanting to jump on the bandwagon, the clothes are very popular. I personally don’t really get why this is the new thing, but no one really cares about my opinion. Now, obviously not every young person dresses like they're straight out of Stranger Things, but it is a new trend that is quickly catching on.

In today’s society I would say that Netflix is the new Cable. Many kids now use Netflix rather than watching cable. On Netflix, they have T.V. shows and not just movies. Also, on Netflix you can watch seasons at a time, rather than waiting a week for the next episode to come out. I know when I watch a T.V. show myself, I always want to just keep watching because, they always leave you wondering about what’s going to happen next. Me, myself would choose netflix over cable any day. Netflix is also, always adding new movies and television shows to watch. There is also something for everyone to watch. They even divide up the movies/ shows into categories for you to look through. I even found shows/movies that I had never heard about until Netflix, and I loved them! I think Netflix will only continue to evolve and start to shut down cable businesses.
ReplyDeleteSomething that is going into style now is technology and no technology is going out of style now. Technology has really grown over the last few years that we sometimes take it for granted. But back in the 90’s, the Internet first came out along with cable TV that only had about three or four channels on it. Now we can stream any movie we want, call and text, and even have a car parallel park for you. It is being replaced very rapidly because of some of the benefits and the money that is gained from it. A benefit of technology, for example would be treating someone for cancer. The more technology you have, the more likely you will be able to figure out the best treatment plan for them. Then sometimes we get too dependent on things like this and don’t know how to function without it. We should always make sure that the technology isn’t controlling our lives and that we get out and live a little.

Safety is in, and innocence is out. Back in the 1960's, the kids walked to the park together and played together then walked back home together. Now, their mother occupies them while they are at the park. In the 1960's, students carried knives and guns inside their schools, particularly in rural areas that had strong hunting ties. Now if you carry a knife at school, you get expelled from the school. Back in the 1960's, when you messed up at the school, you got the paddle, however now if a teacher jokes about that they get fired. Back in the day, if you went to a airport, it was a simple process. Now if you go to an airport you go through what seems like miles of security. There is little explanation for why this change has occurred, but one things for sure, the world is too soft. The world is in a different place from the world of the 1960’s, and there is certainly plenty of room for debate if the change is good or not.

I think that society has changed especially with Movies going out being replaced by Television shows. Back when our parents were young adults on the weekends would go to the movies to catch the new hit to hit the big screen. Now kids in their free time are on Netflix or another streaming company, and watching shows that plus waiting anxiously for the new season to come out like movie sequels. Shows now cost what small movies cost, around a couple million dollars. Shows in early Television could cost less than a million. Modern shows however have been adding more effects than just simple dialog from the old shows. The TV business is also drawing in more of the famous actors to the small screen. These shows are becoming memorable like movies are, people binge watching a series that had watched previously. I find it interesting that this is taking place since in the past few years the top grossing films have changed a lot, due to the hype behind them. Will TV ever take down the Big screen in theaters? I don’t believe that’ll happen considering some of the great movie franchises will keep making movies until there are no more ideas to be thought. WC: 206
ReplyDeleteIn today’s society what’s cool and what’s not changes on a daily basis, but something that hasn’t seemed to drift away is Snapchat. I would think that snapchat is the new myspace for today’s society. It’s used for texting, posting pictures and videos and have group chats. Some things that snapchat doesn’t have to offer but myspace does is that myspace allows users to post blogs and view other users profiles, unlike snapchat where users can only see their bitmoji and number of snaps they received. Snapchat's has some advantages such as the snap location where you can see where all your friends are at if the have their location on. Also if you talk to someone consecutively for numerous days you will begin what is called a snapchat streak where a number will appear next to that person telling you have many consecutive days in a row you and that person have be sending snapchats back and forth. I personal prefer snapchat because it’s a quick and simple way to get ahold of your friends but also being able to share what you are doing with those who you don’t usually talk to by posting to your snapchat story.

ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of things in today’s society that come and go and the old being replaced with the new. I think uber is the new taxi. Most of the places the have taxi’s are the places that are busy dusk till dawn. Urban areas are more likely to have taxi’s than rural areas. Uber is an application for people to pre-calculate how long the travel time will take and what it will cost you or the people you are sharing the ride with. Uber is a safer way for the passengers to ensure that they are not being cheated out of money and there's no more waiting outside for the driver so that they won’t leave. The website will tell you when the driver has arrived and also the license plate number to ensure you are getting into the right vehicle. Taxi is being replaced by uber because rural areas now have a way to get around when taxi services aren’t provided.

Everything is constantly changing, from the cars we drive to the clothes we wear. One item that I have noticed that has replaced “old” ones are smartwatches taking the spot of wrist watches. Originally, watches were not digital. They hand hands to tell the time instead of touchscreens. The history of watches stretches from hands telling the time, to digital numbers that told time, to today, where an interactive touch screen displays the time along with several other features. These features are endless and they are adjustable to fit your lifestyle and personalized to your needs. Like wildfire, these smartwatches spread across the markets and everyone wanted one to be apart of the new trend. These smartwatches have not completely replaced the original watches. Not all people took the bait on the new trend, many still rely on their “old” watches because they don’t think they are tech savvy enough for a technological watch.

Many things come and go a rate that I always thought wasn’t possible, I no longer have that mindset. It doesn’t matter if it's the clothes that we wear, the technology that just came out, or even the food that we all need to survive. For someone that doesn’t have Netflix unlike every other teenager/family in the school. I believe that netflix is in and Cable TV is out because until recently people weren't able to take the TV with them. Netflix, as long as you have an account and the app on your phone you are able to watch whatever is on Netflix. Unlike Cable TV, through a satellite where everything is scheduled at a specific time. Yes, Cable TV is still popular in many households, but so many are beginning to switch from the gigantic bill that is from Cable TV, Netflix has a monthly cost that doesn’t change that I know of.

With the advancement in technology in today’s society, it has had a huge influence on how people shop. From buying clothes to getting groceries, the way people are shopping has evolved. Many people today prefer to order their goods offline now instead of going to the store and purchasing the goods themselves. People tend to find online shopping more convenient for them. If you order the product you want online it saves you from driving to the store yourself. This then can save time for people and may be more appealing to people who aren’t big shoppers. Even though you have to pay shipping when ordering online, people see it as the same amount of money as you spend on gas to go to the store. Another reason why more and more people are moving to online shopping is because they don’t have to visit multiple stores if they have a variety of items to get. Often, online shoppers are able to get everything they want on one shopping site, such as Amazon. One trend that has replaced shopping is online shopping.
